Kalani: School Captain Speech: I would like to take this moment to thank all the teachers and parents who made our grade 6 camp, such a spectacular success. Torquay was amazing, we went to the Surf Museum and learnt all about the history of surfing, and then it all began. Surfing, Paddling, Fishing, Bike Riding, Surf Skiing, Body Boarding, Tony’s dodgy Tours of the Great Ocean Rd, Angelsea fishing, Paddling, shopping, orienteering and lots more. Some people caught their first ever fish, and Sophie and Greg caught some huge Brim that we had for dinner. Special thanks must go to Rachel Powell who did all our cooking and fed us so well on the camp. Dave Foehn, Greg Anderson, Justin Goss and Rosemary Morone for all their help in towing trailers setting up the camp and helping with all the activities. Sophie Courtney a Student teacher and Amanda Hill and ex student and last years Rosebud Secondary school Captain, were just amazing helping out with the activities as well. We had 2 work experience Boys Wade Davies ( the awesome one )and Christopher Thomson helping out also, and they did an amazing job. Our teachers are something special, to organise and set up a camp like this. My highlight was Surfing some huge waves and learning to paddle right out the back. We really carved it up. Summer: My highlight was surfing and I got some really bombora waves and performed some radical moves. One wave was so big it was like a roller coaster ride at the carnival. Sophie: I just loved everything. One wave I rode for over 150 metres, I caught drop dead fred and had him for tea, and getting heaps of bargains shopping at the surf outlets.

Kalani: Thanks again to everyone, and it wont be long till we have some great stories and Magic moments on our Blog I would like to introduce Dillon, Charlie and Josh to talk about their great grand final win on the weekend.

Hi I’m Charlie and I’m Josh and I’m Dylan and we play for the Rosebud Raider Giants. On Saturday we won the grand final against the Red Hill Rockets they were undefeated until the grand final. At half time the scores were six all, and then at the end of the game we won by eleven points. Dylan, Charlie and I were so excited we did a cart wheel across the court. The players in our team are Charlie, Josh, Liam Tid, Zarn, Max, Jet, Liam P and Dylan. Our highlight of the games was when Zarn dribbled through four people and did a great lay up. We would like to thank Rosemary for being our team manager, and Mick Prentice our coach. It is interesting that Mick our coach was Rosebud Primary School Sportsman of the year in 1986.

Music

Musical notes By Malcolm Boag

Classroom Music
Students from grade P-6 have been making music in groups and as a class, and 2s to 6s are starting to make music on recorder, guitar and percussion instruments. Preps love to play the BIG double bass and the tiny violins.

Instrumental Music
Over 100 students are learning in the weekly instrumental and singing lessons. Music staff now numbers 11. Band rehearses each Monday at 2.30pm, attracting advanced players and beginners.
Band Captains for 2010 are Kelsey and Tomas . They will serve as great role models for younger musicians. Congratulations to you both. Their roles will include setting up for band, organising band librarians and comparing concerts.
If you are buying an instrument it is vital that you get good advice. There are a number of shoddy brands out there which are either hard to play or plain don't work and they're not always cheap. Before you buy call in and have a chat with Mr Boag. The big event coming up is the 'Band on the Run' playing tour to the Northern Territory late in August. Special events include sitting in on a rehearsal of their Symphony Orchestra and a play out at Litchfield Park.

Hall Sound and Lighting
Three Grade 6 students are currently being trained as technicians to set up and operate equipment for various events are supporting weekly assemblies, special events, plays and concerts. They can set sound levels and provide theatre lighting. It is a great area of responsibility where kids can learn real life skills.
